“Build Your Family Tree” will let you store, sort and display your family’s data right on your iPhone/iPod Touch. It’s easy to use, no monthly fees, and no in-app purchases. Bring it to family gatherings and fact finding trips. Fun for the family. Educational for the kids.

Adding a new family member:

  • From the home/family screen, tap the plus button "+".
  • Enter the data.
  • Tap "Save" to commit, "Cancel" to forget it.

Changing an existing family member:

  • From the home/family screen, tap "Edit".
  • Scroll through the list of names and tap the name of the person that you want to change.
  • Once you're done making changes, tap "Save" to commit it, or "Cancel" to forget it.
  • To exit the edit mode, tap "Done".

Deleting an existing family member:

  • From the home/family screen, tap "Edit".
  • Scroll through the list of names and either swipe left on the name of the person that you want to delete, or tap the red dot.
  • In either case, tap "Delete" to confirm the action.
  • To exit the edit mode, tap "Done".

To Share the Family File:

  • From the home/family screen, tap "i" (lower right-hand corner)
  • Tap "Share File".
You will be presented with a menu of options on how the file should be transmitted.  Use AirDrop to connect to a nearby device.  Visit the Apple website for more details on how to use AirDrop.

To Receive a Family File:

  • When a new family file is received, the app will give you the option to accept or reject it.  If you accept it, your current family file will be backed up and the new file will become your active file.  I you reject it, the received file will be deleted from your device.
  • NOTE: When you accept the new file, your old backup file (if any) will be deleted.  All data in that file will be lost and cannot be recovered.

Switching between Family Files:

  • If you received and accepted a new family file from another device, your original family file was backed up.  You can switch back to that file as follows:
  • From the home/family screen, tap "i" (lower right-hand corner)
  • Tap "Switch File".
The app will backup your current family file and make the old backup file your new active file.
